After a tough 'narrow it down' process, I settled on the following: Complexities of Celegorm Echoes in the Water Finwëion Friendship First Age Fun With Fëanorions Lord & Lady of Imladris Movie Quotes The Sea Second Age 2 Tengwar
Why...I came up with a shortlist of cards I felt confident would be inspiring (and that I liked looking at) and narrowed from there. They don't necessarily fit in with things I'm already working on, but they're not diametrically opposed, either.
As for plans... the plan is there is no plan. I'll go with whatever strikes me on the day.
Edited (missed the 'why', also forgot there were 2 Second Age cards) Date: 2019-02-16 12:51 am (UTC)
They don't necessarily fit in with things I'm already working on, but they're not diametrically opposed, either.
That's similar to mine. Most of them *could* fit with my series, although don't obviously map onto anything I'm currently writing. I think it makes sense - it gives you the option of working on existing projects and allows inspiration for new things.
(I'm stupidly happy that you chose the Celegorm card, that was one of mine, I thought I might be the only one who wanted it XD in there)
Yes, I'm trying to come at B2MEM like it's Fic A Day - write something every day, short or long (or beginning of something long) - so I decided it had to allow both existing stuff and new possibilities.
I know the feeling - I'm pretty pleased whenever I see someone's picked a card I made! (It's not just me choosing the Celegorm card - I've seen at least one other person who isn't you say they picked it also.) :)
So far, just Darkness, Darkness, and Cuiviénen but I may pick some others....
I probably would have picked Celegorm and other Fëanorions but he/they is not in any of the WIP’s I put on a back burner (or not yet anyhow) nor in the Cuiviénen one I have just started.
I think if you don't pick things you know you can write for, you're setting yourself up for a stressful month - or a lot of pointless claims, at best XD
Most of the ones I chose are ones that I think I can work into my 'verse - although I am slightly worried about how many WIPs I'm going to end up with. The rest of 2019 might have to be designated finishing off time!
I am so excited for your Cuiviénen fic, I adore the snippets and ideas you've shared <3
Yes, I looked at the cards (and honestly not all of them because there are so many!) and thought what I could work into stuff I already have on the go. I don’t rule out some one-shots, but as Indy pointed out, I don’t have to claim a card to do the odd one. (Like that Portal prompt)
I just can’t deal with any more stress right now, so I am going for the easiest options, really.
I know what you mean, I don’t really ant any more WIP’s either 😂
I ended up picking, out of a combination of dithering and spontaneity: 7. Apothecary Garden 32. Color Burst 3 - Yellow 38. Comment on a Fanwork 61. Echoes in the Water 114. Last Lines 115. The Late, Great Mary Oliver 127. Mary Oliver (1935-2009) 133. Mortal Women 186. Tengwar 192. Tolkien Quotes
I have no clear plans yet. Except that I'll be going with any prompt that inspires me, whether it happens to be on a card I picked or not. For example if someone else's fill gives me an idea what else one could do with the prompt! But I like these cards. And maybe after March, I'll know my tengwar!
Those cards all look great! I am intrigued by the Mortal Women card; I don't think I personally could do much with it, but I look forwards to seeing your fics.
I have no plan either XD I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not!
I was fiddling around with the female character cards, hoping that one of them might give me an idea for a short & sweet back-up bio for the SWG Newsletter. But this is unlikely to work, so the outcome for B2MeM is more likely to be ficlets, if anything.
I've actually done quite a lot of work on the bio of Finduilas. Unfortunately, I started in far too long-winded a fashion to get anywhere very quickly, as I'd had quite a lot of thoughts about her. And, of course, it's not exactly the most cheerful subject ever! Both of which have contributed to me getting badly stuck.
Well, when it does appear, I look forwards to it - I really like Finduilas! (I have a lot of thoughts about her too.)
I signed up to do Elemmakil and Vidumavi. Theoretically neither of them should be terribly difficult, but so far I've assembled a pile of notes and that's about it.
Might as well stick my own on here too, although I've discussed them on Discord and my own journal already!

It took me a while to figure out which ones would be most likely to spark something out of the cards that interested me most, but I wound up with
Archetypes Cliches, Fluff and TLC Comment on a Fanwork Cuivienen F/F Potpourri (okay, that card was merciless indulgence when I made it, so...) Four Words G is for Girl (I ♥ whoever made this!) The Late, Great Mary Oliver Person vs. Nature Textual Ghosts 2 (!!!! ♥)
I may grab other cards to supplement those because some were hard to kick out, but mostly I'm hoping to femslash-drabble with these, with the odd misc. thing here and there. ^^
I went with the following: Botany (because yay for plant-based prompts!) Person vs. Nature (because these things always make for nice plots, especially in Middle-Earth) Smells (such a cool concept!) Movie Quotes (these sound good for the more humorous side of things) Five Books, Five Characters (it's always nice to give some new characters (and some old ones) a try and they might be helpful if I'm not sure who to write about) Color Burst Red (it's nice to have some varied prompts in there) Horror (these sound fun, so I couldn't resist, even though they might turn out to be challenging) Tengwar (I'm looking forward to practicing my Tengwar a bit, even though my handwriting could probably be better...)
I don't have any set plans and will just see where these take me. It's possible that I'll be in over my head (I don't have much experience in writing horror, for example) and I have no idea how doable this amount of cards is, but I'm looking forward to giving it a try! :)
